The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but deliverance is of the Lord (Proverbs 21: 31).
Deliverance from Hebrew tashuw‘ah (tesh-oo-aw’) means safety, salvation. The Holy Scriptures teach us that all humans except Jesus Man are sold to sin (Romans 7: 14). According to Oxford dictionary, deliverance is the action of being rescued or set free.
WHAT AM I A SLAVE OF?
That is perhaps the question most will ask followed by “I am free, I am not a slave, I choose to do what I want…” But what does God say?
Slave of Sin
Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin” (John 8: 34).
What is even more interesting is the fact that the Lord Jesus was answering to people who also thought to be free, as written in verse 33 of the same chapter, “…We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone […]”. But Christ showed them otherwise. To the same regards, Romans 6: 17 declares: “But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered”. It can, therefore, be depicted that Men are enslaved by sin.
This generation has far surpassed Sodom and Gomorrah. Sin reached its peak to the point where we can no longer quantify it. A perverse generation where fornication is accepted and cherished by the youth and the elderly. Divorces, homosexuality, adultery, immorality, and concubinage have become normal business both out and in local churches. And the symptoms of such slavery can be seen every day : anger, contentions corruption, covetousness, dissensions, drunkenness, envy, feelings of hatred, fraud, heresies, idolatry, jealousies, lewdness, lie, murders, and outbursts of wrath, quarrel, revelries, selfish ambitions, sorcery, uncleanness, witchcraft and similar things.
Slave of Men
You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men ( 1 Corinthians 7: 23).
Men are slaves of men. We see how “Christians” are afraid of men to the point of being unable to take a stand for The Truth. A generation where people will tell you about their “man of God” but never will they mention Christ. The creatures have become for some their creator at the point where marriages are broken, children have become rebellious, parents do not care about the education of their children, all to the fact that “the man of God said…” It is amazing how you can get inside a house and the first picture you see on the wall is the one of a preacher.
What has happened to this generation? There is an exponential rise in compromise. Many obey men rather than God; others incite people to serve God in a manner contrary to the Holy Scriptures. Many seek to be approved by men. Many behave not to please God, who tests our hearts, but men. Others seek the glory which comes from men. Some are tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.
Many preachers are idolaters of themselves; they oppose the Truth and keep the souls of God in captivity. Others do not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they heap up for themselves teachers who are destined to hell. There are seducers and antichrists who do not confess that Jesus Christ came in the flesh.
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17: 30).
Slave of Unbelief
And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief (1 Timothy 1: 12-13).
Many people in the world call themselves atheists (although they are not atheists because they believe that they do not believe in anything) and consequently are not interested in the fact that Jesus knocks at the door of their hearts. Others because of their academic or professional level relegate Jesus to the last place. Others have witnessed The Power of God in their lives (cured of an incurable disease, got out of a car accident etc…) and yet they have forgotten The Hand of God in their lives and continue to live a life of sin. Others were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, and yet crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
[…] Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts (Hebrews 4: 7).
Slave of Traditions and Cultures of Men
He said to them, “All too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition” (Mark 7: 9).
Many people are enslaved to their tradition. We often hear, “My tradition does not allow this or that”, “this must be done according to my culture” and even worst “this is what our culture says so that is how it should be”. As a result, you see some going and speaking to the dead at funerals (though the Bible forbids us to do so), some being sold to get married during dowry (lobola in South African term) through the Bible tells us that God bought us at the price of His blood ; all this we do in the name of our culture.
The creature has forgotten the Culture of the Heavenly Kingdom and became enslaved to the traditions of men.
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ (Colossians 2: 8).
Several creatures refer to their tradition; instead of having Jesus as the Reference. Many people compromise their tradition instead of keeping Jesus’ commandments. Nevertheless, Jesus declares in John 14: 15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments”. The Bible reveals the kingdom of God. God is unique and One, He is above all; no human cultures can dictate how to serve Him, but He (God) tells us how to honour Him, He is the King of His Kingdom and makes the rules of that Kingdom.
THE REASONS OF SOME ‘CHRISTIANS’ SLAVERY
It might sound contradictory but some people labeling themselves Christians are still under bondage. They are not free of the different types of slavery mentioned above. How could it be possible? The answer to that question is found in the following verses:
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2: 13-14).
Several creatures are still natural or animal men. They never gave their lives to Jesus; they are governed by their ego, governed by their sinful nature and therefore not sealed by the Holy Spirit of Jesus who convinces of sin.
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? (1 Corinthians 3: 1-4).
Others, although they have known Jesus, always obey to their flesh; they are ignorant and are not led by The Holy Spirit who testifies to our spirit that we are Children of God.
THE DELIVERANCE OF THE LORD
The good news is the fact that The Lamb of God Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world; more than 2000 years ago, even before we were born, Jesus at the cross said “It is done” (or “All is accomplished“). In other words, before the sickness of sins came, the remedy was already there; before the incredulity came, the solution was already there.
Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it (Colossians 2: 14-15).
According to Proverbs 21: 31, we can, therefore, be delivered from all that holds us captive by The Grace of Jesus, the only True and Living God; for deliverance is from Yahweh.
Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited and redeemed His people” (Luke 1: 67- 68).
The Word of God teaches us that God has visited and redeemed His people. For a son to visit his parents, he has to be at his parent house. In other words, God came on earth, visited and redeemed His people.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. […] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” (John 1: 1, 14 )
Jesus, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Indeed, the Living God is Jesus-Christ of Nazareth, who can redeem or deliver us from all that holds us captive.
I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt; I have heard their groaning and have come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt (Acts 7: 34).
Here we have a beautiful picture of deliverance. The people of God were afflicted in Egypt; they groaned because of bondage, they were in pain. The latter shouted to the God of Grace, who heard the cry they pushed on for their oppressors.
Sin is the image of spiritual Egypt. The creatures of God are afflicted by sin; others groan because of the bondage of sin, others are in pain to the point of committing suicide; others are really in pain that they need to take drugs to forget their worries; others get drunk; others seek peace in sex; others seek peace in prostitution. The heart of most men is really empty. However, man wants to fill this emptiness by his own means; by things that are an abomination to God.
As the people of God have cried to God to be delivered, God wants you and I to cry to Him in order to be truly delivered.
Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1: 12-14).
You may be reading this message and you are tired of life, tired of the injustice of this perverse and corrupt world; you are at the point of committing suicide, you can be a prostitute, brutal, blasphemer, boaster, despiser of good, disobedient to parents, haughty, headstrong, homosexuals, lover of money, proud, traitor, unforgiving, unholy, unloving, unthankful, slanderer, without self-control, lover of pleasure rather than lover of God, you call yourself an atheist. Jesus Christ is the Solution to our problems; Jesus Christ is the only One who can deliver us from all these burdens.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light (Matthew 11: 28-30).
For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1: 9-10).
Jesus Christ does not only deliver us from our burdens or sins and similar things, Jesus also delivers us from the wrath to come.
In the book of 2 Kings Chapter 24, the servants of the king of Babylon Nebuchadnezzar went up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged. It is at this moment that the time of the nations has taken effect. In His immense unconditional Love, God has fixed a time when the times of the nations will come to an end.
And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled (Luke 21: 24).
The times of the nations will end at the second coming of Jesus, The Lion of the tribe of Judah and will be characterized by the battle of Armageddon; the judgment and condemnation of the beast and the false prophet; the condemnation of kings and armies. Soon after, there will be the resurrection of the ungodly and the last judgment for the lake of fire. Jesus in His immense Love for Men wants to deliver us from this wrath to come.
Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment (2 Peter 2: 9).
We also have the notion of deliverance for those who honour the God of Glory Jesus. You, who love Jesus, who fear the God of the Bible and who are persecuted; misunderstood by men; calumniated; afflicted because of your Faith in Jesus, take courage because Jesus can deliver you from all these.
Persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me (2 Timothy 3: 11).
If you read this message, if your life is not right with Jesus, if you do not have peace with Jesus, I invite you to seek peace with Jesus in order to have life. For Jesus desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
You who are condemned by Men, who have done things so badly to the eyes of God and Men, there is a good news for you. Jesus wants you to be converted and to live.
“But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18: 21-23).
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit (Romans 8: 1).
What a good news! Change your life, go to your Creator Jesus and cry to Jesus, repent to Jesus in order to be transformed by the bath of regeneration and the renewal of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5: 17).
My brother, my sister, you who read this message and pass through a desert of some kind, who are rejected and in solitude; not understood by your family and Men; hatred of the world because of your faith in Christ; wondering if all these battles are worthwhile, let me tell you that God who has begun a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Let us look to Jesus! Yes, the walk is long and difficult, yet it is not impossible for the one who believes.
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world (John 16: 33).
Strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14: 22).
Let us trust in Jesus and be faithful until death, in order to receive the crown of life from Jesus, our Father.
To Jesus, The Almighty God who returns at full speed, Glory forever and ever; Amen! Maranatha! (The Lord is coming!)
A disciple of Jesus Christ
